Shaun Maswanganyi, a 20-year-old South African athlete, ran the 100m in 9s87 on Sunday night in Florida, USA. This exceptional time would have been the new junior world record for the distance.

Unfortunately the weather will not be approved because of the wind speed (3.7m / s) much higher than the authorized standard (2m / s). This shows, however, that South Africans are currently among the best sprinters in the world.

Born in Pétoria but a first year student in Florida, Shaun Maswanganyi is coached by sprint legend Carl Lewis.
