Equatorial Guinea takes out Mali and finds Senegal in quarter
As in the first round of 16 this Wednesday, Mali and Equatorial Guinea went through the fateful ordeal of penalties. And it is Equatorial Guineawho finally wins after a goalless draw. The two teams even delivered a match below expectations.
Mali multiplies the chances in the second half but struggles to find the fault. Mohamed Camara unscrews his strike in the 80th minute. Emilio Nsue completely misses his shot in the Malian area (88th).
After regulation scoreless time, both teams went into overtime. And neither team manages to score. Alioune Dieng entered the game (108′), his shot was blocked by the Equatoguinean goalkeeper Jesus Owono (112′). The penalty shootout therefore decides between the two selections. And it is Equatorial Guinea which qualifies for the quarter-finals. It will challenge Senegal on Sunday January 30 at 7 p.m. GMT in Yaoundé.
