The Rwandan Government in partnership with the Africa50 have on Friday, 17th December 2021 unveiled the Kigali Innovation City (KIC) Masterplan that is projected to attract over US$300million and create over 50,000 jobs.

The master plan is a blueprint for the 61 hectares KIC site, which entails developing and constructing a mixed-use world-class and smart innovation hub.

It will be implemented in phases. First, the construction of the horizontal infrastructure, such as roads & drainage systems, and a mixed-use building and visitor centre in 2022. This will catalyze further investments into the project.

A shareholders agreement to govern partners obligations during the development phase was signed between Rwanda Development Board and Africa50 represented by Clare Akamanzi and Allain Ebobissé, respectively.

Speaking to the media, RDB CEO Clare Akamanzi said that the unveiling of the master plan will be followed by bringing on board key players who will permit mobilization of the required investment to complete the project.

The Kigali Innovation City is at the core of Rwanda’s vision to become a pan-African hub for tech and innovation.
