While some games have been resumed in Rwanda for the past few days, the same has been resumed for Rugby, where they will host
7 aside (7s) tournament, which will take place at the Amahoro Stadium in Remera.
Greetings from the Rwanda Rugby Federation, Kigali. This campaign has been launched by the Federation on behalf of its member clubs to raise funds to host a Christmas Sevens Tournament. With your kindness we hope to raise enough funds to be able to invite 8 male teams and 6 female teams for a festive tournament.
Rwanda, known as the ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’ like every other country has suffered during Covid-19 times, but rugby being a contact sport has suffered more than most. The Federation must now follow enhanced costly return to play protocols, which will only be possible with the aid of donors.
Rugby in Rwanda is mainly reliant on the support of donors and having been unable to play for the last 18 months, we would like to host this tournament to celebrate the return to rugby. This will give the players a competition that they can train for, but, unfortunately, we do not have the funds to do this and are solely reliant on your kindness. Please note that all clubs are run by volunteers and that no members receive payments for their contributions.
The funds raised will allow the Federation to commit to the following:
• To cover the cost of transport for each team to and from the host venue.
• Covid tests for all players and officials in line with Rwandan Government requirements.
• A light lunch for all players.
• Water for all players.
Please note that teams will be traveling from all across Rwanda and that the cost of transport, along with the recently introduced Covid test requirements is where the majority of funds will be used. Therefore, we appreciate any generosity because without this funding, we will be unable to host this much needed tournament.
