National Farmers Day to be held in Cape Coast December 3
The event’s subject is “Planting for Food and Jobs: Consolidating Ghana’s Food Systems.”
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister of Food and Agriculture, declared this at the day’s launch in Accra yesterday .
The 37th National Farmers and Fishermen’s Day, according to Dr. Akoto, was established in 1985 to promote and celebrate farmers and fishermen for their significant contribution to national progress.
He said food security was critical to a society’s peace and stability, and that there was “incontrovertible evidence” that “food insecurity is a key driver of wars” around the world.
This is why food production and access are critical and must always be prioritized, ”he stated.
There are no food shortages.
Dr. Akoto promised that there would be no food shortages in the country next year.
According to him, he observed that Ghana’s food production prognosis was encouraging during a field trip to the Oti and Volta regions this week to assess the situation.
Challenges
“For example, climate change has resulted in unfavorable rainfall patterns, which are posing a challenge to agricultural development,” he stated.
The bottlenecks in the sector, according to Nana Siriboe, who is also the Paramount Chief of the Juaben Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region, required inventive solutions.
Ms Justina Marigold Assan, the Central Regional Minister, expressed gratitude for the choice to hold the event in the region.
“This year’s celebration coincides with the region’s active participation in the PFJ program, which has helped thousands of individuals in the area.
