R WANDA – Gicumbi: A man is suspected of sexually abusing a boy
The Byumba Local Court on August 11, 2021 sentenced a man living in Gicumbi District, Rwamiko Sector, Cyuru Cell to 30 days in prison on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old boy.
According to the prosecution, he committed the crime in May 2021, when he found the child in a house where his grandmother had protected him and refused to go to bed. The man reportedly heard the child crying and entered the house and told the child to climb out the window and help him get him out and take him home and feed him, and then he raped her and told her that if he said that he would stab her and kill her.
The child continued to be silent about his experience but came to have a hip injury that prompted his parents to follow up and tell him that it was the man who had injured him.
When the man testified before the court, he admitted that he had taken the child to his home but denied the rape, saying that he had nothing to do with the child and that he had nothing to do with his parents to make him unfaithful.
The prosecution alleges that the man’s description of himself and his refusal to disclose the child show that he was aware of the crime and that it was a criminal offense.
The court remanded him in custody for 30 days, while undergoing DNA testing and testing.
