CAN-10th edition: On the assault of the “ Untouchables ” Lions of Senegal

The 10th edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) beach soccer begins this Sunday in Senegal with the host country, arch-favorite to the final victory.  5 times winner and double defending champions, the Lions are logically favorites for a 6th continental crown while everything remains open for the 2nd qualifying ticket for the 2021 World Cup in Russia.

Senegal puts its title on the line this Sunday in Saly, a hundred kilometers from Dakar, the Senegalese capital.  Host for the first time of the CAN of beach soccer,  Senegal is housed in group A along with Tanzania and Uganda. An exceptionally three group, after the withdrawal of the DRC less than a week before the kickoff of this CAN.

Uganda discovers the competition.  Tanzania, on the other hand, has a second participation in a row after that of 2018 in Egypt.  The Tanzanians find Senegalese who had inflicted a 12-2 rousing on them.  It was a hard apprenticeship for the Taifa Stars.  However, they come to Saly with a much more experienced team than three years ago.

Egypt and Morocco for the 2nd ticket to Russia 2021

In Pool B, we find Egypt and Morocco, two of the most experienced teams in the competition.  But also the Seychelles who return after their only participation in 2015. They had also hosted the CAN of beach soccer that year.  Finally Mozambique, which qualified for the first time in its history to compete, completes this group.  Egypt 3rd in 2018 and 2016 as well as Morocco ½ finalist in the last two editions are therefore favorites.

The top two from each group advance to the ½ final and wo finalists will represent Africa at the Beach Soccer World Cup scheduled for August in Russia.  The big coast would be to see if one of the 6 other nations present at this  10th edition of the CAN of beach soccer can dislodge Senegal, in front of its public, from its so high perch of ogre of African beach soccer.
