World Cup 2022-Morocco-Philip Lahm: “In terms of football culture, Morocco is European”
Morocco will play its first quarter-final of the World Cup this Saturday, against Portugal. If Walid Regragui’s men pass the quarterfinals, they will be the first Africans to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup. Former German international Philip Lahm praised the quality of play of the Atlas Lions.
“ It’s time for the quarter-finals and the whole world is talking about Morocco. In terms of football culture, Morocco is European. One of its stars, PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, was born in Madrid and has played in all of Real Madrid’s youth teams. The other, Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech, grew up in the Netherlands and came to prominence at Ajax Amsterdam. Morocco, whose coast is easily seen from Andalusia, have adapted their football to the Spanish style. The players are light-footed, agile and technically good. The team defends with dedication, against with courage.
