Dakar meeting: big times for wind

Louis François Mendy (110m hurdles) and Gina Bass (100m) will have signed great performances at the Dakar meeting, this Saturday, June 25, for butter. Due to excessive wind speed, the two times will not be approved. And it is likely to continue in this too open enclosure.

The Dakar international meeting made its return this Saturday, June 25, after a seven-year absence. The big performance was recorded by the new local star, Louis François Mendy. The Senegalese managed a 12s91 in the 110m hurdles. This very big time should allow him to be the 2 nd best performer in the world of the year, behind Devon Allen’s 12s84. The 26-year-old American is also the only one to go below 13 seconds this year

Unfortunately for Louis François Mendy, this excellent brand will not be approved. The wind was much too favorable (4m/s). The limit authorized by World Athleticsis 2m/s. The 23-year-old athlete’s record therefore remains 13s59, achieved in June 2019 in Paris. The Gambian Gina Bass is also in the same situation. His very good 11s02 in the 100m will not be counted because of the wind.

Unfortunately, this may be the case for many competitions that will take place in this enclosure annexed to the Abdoulaye Wade stadium in Diamniadio. The location and architecture favor high wind speed. Which is a shame for the athletes because all the performances will only be… wind. It will therefore be difficult for a record to be broken there under these conditions.
