CAN 2023 Qualifications and Friendly: Worrying ”globalists”

It is true that the period before the holidays is always very special and not conducive to making very good matches often because of the fatigue accumulated by many players, but the latest results of the African nations qualified for the World Cup are hardly reassuring. .

The Lions were a hit with Mané as boss

Aliou Cissé did not hide it before going on vacation. While Senegal ended its 2021-2022 sports season on Tuesday with a sluggish and narrow victory against the modest team of Rwanda in qualifying for CAN 2023, the Lions coach hopes that his team will open the next exercise in September with friendly matches to prepare for the 2022 World Cup which, for once, will be played in November. It is necessary to better gauge the real level of the African selections which will be in Qatar.

Unreassuring results against teams from other continents

In the meantime, the results obtained in June against teams from other continents are disappointing and very worrying. Morocco was the first team to take on the United States. The Atlas Lions, quarter-finalists at the last CAN, have received a lesson. Coach Vahid’s men lost heavily 3-0. It is not the victory (2-1) against a South Africa in distress for a few years that will reassure Moroccans. Five months before the World Cup, there are too many questions about this selection. The coach plays his survival at each outing. Not the best climate to prepare. And not sure either that the match against Liberia on Monday, on behalf of the 2nd  day  of qualifying for CAN 2023, dispels all doubts.

The ”Blacks stars” extinct in the land of the rising sun

Besides Morocco, Ghana was also showered when it went out to play outside the continent. The Ghanaians took a rout against  Japan (4-1) in Tokyo where they are playing the Kiring Cup 2022  , a friendly international tournament. A setback that came just after a sad 1-1 draw against the Central African Republic, a nation that has never qualified for a CAN. Finally the only light during this summer tour of the Black Stars remains the second period against Madagascar. After 45 minutes without scoring, Otto Addo’s men had planted three goals against the Malagasy, deprived of several executives and in reconstruction. Not really an indicator.

Tunisia so far very solid

On Tuesday Ghana will play their last match of the season against Chile in the Kiring Cup. A match that we will have to win to reassure ourselves. Because the Chliens, aging and not qualified for  the 2022 World Cup  , have just recorded a defeat against Tunisia (2-0). The Tunisians, not yet up to speed in the game, have had encouraging results so far. They have yet to concede a goal in June. They inflicted a beating on Equatorial Guinea in Rades and  therefore dominated Chile 2-0 in Tokyo  . But they still lacked efficiency against Botswana (0-0).

Senegal too dependent on Mané

Senegal won their two matches in June, all counting for qualifying for CAN 2023. Flamboyant against Benin (3-1) despite some concentration errors which cost them a goal, they were less inspired against the Rwandans. As for a few years, Super Mané was there to wear the savior costume. After his hat-trick to torpedo the Squirrels, he planted a penalty in the 98th  minute  to punish the Amavubis (1-0).

The Lions of Teranga thus go on vacation with this short success. Just like the Indomitable Lions, victorious in the pain of Burundi (1-0). The president of the Cameroonian Federation.
