Rwanda has announced that the Gatuna border with Uganda will be open from Monday next week.
This is according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Rwanda following the visit of President Museveni’s son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is in charge of the Armed Forces and is an adviser to the President in military service, held in Rwanda on January 22, 2022.
The Foreign Ministry further said that the visit showed that Uganda is committed to resolving the issues raised by Rwanda.
The statement added that it was also based on the results of the Gatuna / Katuna talks on February 21, 2022, which brought together the heads of state of the four countries.
“Rwanda informs the public that the Gatuna border between Rwanda and Uganda will be opened from January 31.”
Rwanda says it will continue to work hard to resolve its disputes with Uganda, and hopes that opening the border will strengthen efforts to restore good relations between the two countries.
