Taliban beat journalist with gun in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital. This is in contrast to what they had promised the public that they would respect the rights of the media. The incident comes amid ongoing reports that the Taliban’s crackdown on journalists and human rights abuses has been on the rise since they took over the capital more than a week ago.

Ziar Khan Yaad, a journalist working for TOLO news channel, wrote on his Twitter account that the Taliban had beaten him in Kabul in the Shahr-e-Naw area on Thursday, and confiscated his work equipment, including a camera and a mobile phone.

TOLO news network reported that Yaad and his colleague were taking pictures of workers and other unemployed people when they were suddenly attacked and beaten by the Taliban.

Yaad writes that he still does not know what caused them. He said the matter had been referred to the Taliban authorities but that so far the perpetrators had not been arrested.
