The victory (2-0, ap) of Algeria against Tunisia in the final of the Arab Cup, this Saturday, December 18, was well celebrated in Paris. There were some festivities in Barbès. But also, in the evening, a lot of overflows on the Champs-Elysées. This caused clashes with the police.

Defying the order of the prefect prohibiting any gathering on the spot, hundreds of Algerian supporters took to the famous avenue. Many gathered on the sidewalks.

Police intervention led to 25 arrests and 378 fines for non-compliance with the prefect’s order and for traffic offenses.

Calm returned to the Champs-Elysées around 11 p.m. (10 p.m. GMT).
