Arsenal: Aubameyang, the shadow of himself

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang  will have known until the end, a complicated season. Between illness, injuries and poor results, the Arsenal striker weighs less this year in the opposing defenses. We are far from his 30 goals on average per season.

We knew Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang  sharper than that. But this year, the Gabonese international is far from his usual standards. Because, this season 2021/2022, the “Panther” is only a shadow of itself. His current state of form is not without consequences for his club, Arsenal, which occupies a sad 9th place in the league with 49 points.

The former Dortmund player was used to feasting match after match.  Whenever the Gabonese striker stepped onto the lawns of the Premier League , one could expect a flash of genius. His lightning acceleration, his composure in front of goals, hurt the English defenses.

 Less decisive this season

Aubame  then displays incredible statistics. In 2018/2019 and 2019/2020, the Gunners captain  had slammed 31 goals, then 27 goals in all competitions.  Not to mention his contribution to the game of the London club.  A real leader of a man.

But in recent months, the 31-year-old has been particularly unrecognizable.  He is much less decisive (14 goals, all competitions) this season.  His contribution to Arsenal’s game is less felt.  The African Golden Ball in 2015 has become ghostly.

What then happens to the formidable goalscorer he was?  If he certainly accuses the blow of age to soon 32 years (he will celebrate his 32 years in June), his poor form is explained in addition, by his recurring injuries and his  few embarrassments with his coach .

The player has indeed experienced various fortunes this season.  Between sanctions from his trainer,  Mikel Arteta , for disciplinary reasons, numerous injuries, and malaria he contracted recently, after a trip with his national team.  The obstacles to develop fully have not been lacking for him this year.

The Gabon international must then quickly turn this dark page of his career to finally find his bite next season. Three days from the end of the  Premier League  , he can always finish in style and improve his capital, go on vacation with his head free, in order to “come back stronger”, as he promises.  Africa News 24 Rutembesa Anicet
