CAN 2021: CAF dismisses Sierra Leone
Scheduled for next June , the match between Sierra Leone and Benin is the only one that has not yet been played, for qualifying for CAN 2021. However, the match was to be played on March 30. But, extra-sporting incidents with Beninese players who tested positive for Covid-19, led to its postponement. Benin had contested the results that it considered suspicious. The African Football Confederation (CAF) then decides to reschedule the confrontation in June. However, the Sierra Leonean Federation (SLFA) then seized the CAF appeal committee to contest this postponement.
However, it is the cold shower in Freetown. “The SLFA did not respect its obligations regarding the Covid-19 protocol. In particular concerning the presentation of the results of the PCR test in accordance with CAF’s Covid-19 directives ” , underlines the press release from the umbrella body. Therefore, CAF has confirmed that this match is postponed to June.
