CAF and FIFA experts appreciate the quality of the pitch on a training ground.
CAF and FIFA experts say they are satisfied with what they have already seen in Cameroon as part of their mission to inspect the sites selected for the holding of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), January 9 to February 6, 2022. They praised the quality of the facilities located in the host cities in the North and West of the country.
” We are very happy to be on the pitch with CAF and the Local Organizing Committee ,” said Jaime Yarza Gonzalez, one of the FIFA representatives. In Garoua, from what we have seen, the stadiums are of exceptional quality. For such an important tournament for Africa, we hope all the facilities are like here. “

The head of mission, also Deputy Secretary General of CAF, shares the same enthusiasm. “ I am a former footballer and when I enter a pitch, the first thing that interests me is the pitch. I am happy with what I saw in Garoua, ignited Anthony Baffoe . Everything is at the top, whether it is the main field (Roumde Adjia, Editor’s note ) or its annex. The facilities are simply fantastic. “

Adjustments to Bafoussam
Tuesday, May 25, the team of inspectors went to Bafoussam. Divided into three groups (stadiums, hotels and hospitals), the emissaries of the apex bodies of African and world football reviewed the infrastructural offer of the West region of Cameroon. Between visiting hotels, hospitals in the city of the same name and playing areas, they scrutinized the reception facilities for CAN 2021.
One of the training grounds annexed to the Kouekong stadium in Bafoussam.
In this city the host country of the competition also scored good points. The main field of the Kouekong stadium, which will host some matches, is operational. Ditto for the four additional training grounds. According to our information, a new play area that can accommodate two teams is under construction in the Tagidor complex in Bangou. Another training ground is being finished in the town of Bafang, we are told.

Doubt persists at the Olembé complex
The only downside for Cameroon: at the end of the visit to the Olembé sports complex, the CAF and FIFA experts did not display the same enthusiasm as in Garoua and Bafoussam. The infrastructure, supposed to be the symbol of the competition, is far from complete. On the site, it’s a race against time. At least 800 workers keep working hours together.
More than 800 workers are trying to deliver the Olembé complex in Yaoundé on time.
It’s not win.
Initially, the Olembé complex was to be delivered before CAN 2019, but the site is lagging behind. To the point where many commentators fear that the delivery deadline set for November 2021 will not be met. Which suggests that the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium could constitute a plan B.
Note that the joint CAF-FIFA mission ends on May 28
