CAN 2021: Ghana without its stars
Ghana deprived of its stars for the last two days of the CAN 2021 qualifiers. Jordan and Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey or John Boye are not selected by the coach of the Black Stars. A decision linked to that of certain European clubs to block their African internationals.
Ghana therefore resigned itself. The Black Stars coach did not want to take any risk to complete the CAN 2021 qualifiers. Charles Akonnor indeed leaves his stars playing in Europe on their side. Thus, the big absent from the list of 27 remain the brothers Ayew, André (Swansea City) and Jordan (Crystal Palace). Thomas Partey (Arsenal) won’t be there either. The same goes for the defenders of FC Metz, John Boye, and of RC Strasbourg, Alexandre Djiku (injured).
With three African U20 champions
Absences which however make the happiness of three recent champions of Africa U20. Danlad Ibrahim, Philemon Baffour and the best player of the tournament Fatawu Issahaku are indeed part of the list. Three other players will join the team for the first time. They are Stephen Ambrosius (Hambour), Osman Bukari (La Gantoise), and Kamal Sowah (OH Louvain).
First in group B tied on points with South Africa (9 pts, +3), Ghana (9 points, +4) is only one victory away from qualifying. The Black Stars face the Bafana Bafana on March 25 in Johannesburg. They will complete the qualifiers at home on the 28th against the group’s red lantern, Sao Tome, already eliminated.
