CAN 2021 / Gr. A: Guinea misses the mark in Namibia
Qualified at the end of the 5th day, Guinea had to win in Windhoek to take first place in Group A in Mali. But in the end, the national Syli concedes a defeat in Namibia (2-1), at the end of the CAN 2021 qualifiers.
Guinea’s mission was far from easy in Namibia. With the return of many expatriates including Naby Keita , Didier Six has, in fact, made the trip with mainly locals. Mamadou Kane, however, does the hard part for this Syli with a strong CHAN connotation. The midfielder from Neftchi Baku (Azerbaijan) opened the scoring in the 18th minute. The conclusion of a superb sequence at the entrance to the penalty area: control of the right, strike from the left into the small net.
Guinea then unwinds but does not manage to take cover. A lack of realism that galvanizes the Brave Warriors. What West Africans will pay dearly. While the Syli thought to join the locker room with this handicap, he was punished in the last seconds of the first period. Peter Shalulile takes advantage of a moment of relaxation in the Guinean defense to equalize (45th + 2). The Namibian captain will then sign a double in the second half from a corner (77th).
But this defeat is of no consequence for Guinea already qualified. The Syli will accompany Mali to this CAN 2021 . The Eagles finished first in Group A with 13 points +6. The Malians did not play their last qualifying match, taking advantage of the disqualification of Chad.
