Comoros tournament: Burundi replaces Gambia
The players of the Comorian selection listening to their coach.
The Gambia, which was to participate in the international tournament of the Comoros 1 st to September 7 with Seychelles, has withdrawn for financial reasons. “I was informed that it was not possible to go to the Comoros, because it was too expensive.
I therefore informed the 23 players concerned on Saturday that they remained at the disposal of their respective clubs. We will therefore not play any friendly match in September, ” Belgian Scorpions coach Tom Saintfiet told Sport News Africa.
The Gambia, qualified for the next African Cup of Nations in Cameroon (January 9-February 6, 2022), has therefore not started in the best possible way its preparation for this historic meeting. The Comoros Football Federation (FFC), informed on Saturday evening, however found a solution to compensate for the loss of the Gambians.
“On Sunday morning, I contacted the Burundian federation, and its president (Révérien Ndikuriyo, editor’s note) gave me his agreement,” said Saïd Ali Athouman, president of the FFC. The Burundians, who faced on August 29 in Qatar, Algeria A ‘(0-3), are expected by Thursday at the latest in Moroni.
