The President of the Burundi football federation has just announced that he will not seek another term at the head of this national football body.
During the closing ceremonies of the national football championship which has just ended with the second consecutive coronation of the Messager Ngozi team, ceremonies which saw the decorations of the best distinctions of the season, the boss of the football federation of Burundi bids farewell on his chair , which he has occupied since 2013.
“The time has come to make room for others, I know that there are other leaders who will loyally pursue the good works already begun in the service of Burundian football,”
Under its governance, Burundi has seen its football improve in the concert of nations of African football, we would point out here the development of football infrastructures, a positive leitmotif for the smooth running of the national championship. A championship which continues to bear fruit with the emergence of Burundian talents towards the European championships.
At the international level, it is under his presidency that Burundi will see two qualifications in the final phase of two major CAF competitions in the category of juniors and seniors. In 2019, Burundi qualified for the first time in its history for the African Cup of Nations, held in Egypt, after a campaign in support of the national team called Support Nos Hirondelles, initiated by Reverien Ndikuriyo. This same year was also crowned by the qualification of Burundi to the CAN U20, which was held in Niger, after 25 years of absence in this competition.
“I am leaving but I will always be at the side of the national team, it is our duty to serve the Intamba mu rugamba because we come from far away and we have a vision. I will also be at the side of youth football to achieve our vision 2026. ” added the president of the FFB.
At the end of the ceremonies, he was awarded a prize for best football manager by the sponsor company of the Burundi football championship. Other awards were given to the best accolades of the 2020-2021 season including the best player of the season, the revelation of the season, the best player in the diaspora as well as the best 11 of the season.
Elections for the new Burundian football leadership committee are scheduled for October this year.
