LDC – 1/4 final: City wins in extremis, Mahrez decisive
Manchester City is doing well. Thanks to an achievement by Phil Foden in the 90th minute, the Citizens won a narrow victory (2-1) at home against Dortmund, in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Pep Guardiola must have asked himself many questions between the 85th minute and the 90th. During these five minutes, all the failures in the Champions League of recent years have certainly paraded through the head of the Spanish technician. Indeed, his team has really complicated the task at the Ettihad Stadium. The Citizens took the lead in the 19th minute. Thanks to Belgian attacking midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, well served by Algerian Ryad Mahrez . But City eat a lot in front and end up cracking behind at the wrong time. Dortmund equalized, indeed, in the 84th minute.
Foden saves Manchester City
Haaland and Marco Reus have, this time, reversed the roles. The Norwegian striker shifts, with a sublime pass in a touch of the ball, the German who crucifies Ederson. At 1-1, five minutes from time, the advantage in this double confrontation went to the Germans. It is without counting however on the tenacity of the young Foden. The English international who has however spoiled a lot tonight gives the advantage to the Skyblues by concretizing an offering from Gundogan (2-1, 90th). The advance before the return is certainly short but it is enough to relax the face of Pep Guardiola, relieved at the final whistle.
