Namibia: the rugby championship scheduled for April 10
After a year without competitions, Namibia resumes its rugby championship. The start of hostilities is scheduled for April 10. The decision is made at the end of the Namibian Rugby Federation (NRU) Annual General Meeting. However, this year, the Federation is planning two different tours to carry out its activities. This, in order to comply in particular with the Covid-19 protocol in force, in addition to the preventive measures. ” This approach was adopted to mitigate the risk of the spread of the pandemic but also to ensure the well-being of the players,” said NRU President Corrie Mensah .
Besides the National Leagues, the NRU has also confirmed Namibia’s participation in various international competitions. Thus, the Namibian National Under-20 team will participate in the Africa Under-20 Cup. It will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from June 24 to July 4.
Namibia on the international scene
Then, Namibia will host Pool A of the African Rugby Cup (July 1-11). The Namibians share their hen with Madagascar and the Ivory Coast. In this tournament, the top two teams from each pool qualify for the 2022 Africa Cup.
To help the Namibian team prepare better, the Federation has confirmed a series of two friendlies against Zimbabwe on June 12 and 19 .
