First day and already a first thunderclap! Kenya, yet favorite of the tournament, lost 19-20 against Senegal, in Pool B of the Rugby Africa Cup. The competition is held in Kenya from July 3 to 18.

Led by 7 points at the break (13-06), the Ovalie Lions therefore overthrew the Simbas in their den at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi. This is Kenya’s first home defeat since the arrival on the bench of Paul Odera in December 2019. Senegal will face Zambia on July 7 for their last match in Pool B. A success and the Lions would validate qualification for the 3rd and final round of the Rugby Africa Cup in 2022.

This 8-team knockout tournament, played with quarter-finals, semi-finals and a grand final will allow the winner to qualify directly for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France. And the runner-up will participate in a world repechage tournament
