Rwanda National Police in Kigali denies rumors on social media about two men on Twitter
The arrests took place on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, following the announcement of the news via the social networking site Twitter.
According to the National Police via Twitter, the two were arrested.
“We have arrested Nsabimana Aphonse and Kwizera Adams on suspicion of spreading rumors on social media,” the statement said.
The message continues to urge Rwandans to refrain from spreading rumors.
“We remind all Rwandans that it is a crime to spread rumors, and we urge them to avoid it,” he said.
The detainees were detained at Nyarugunga Police Station, Kanombe Sector in Kicukiro District.
Rumors have it that he was arrested, according to the National Police Twitter account and a message from Chris Adams on Twitter.
When he wrote that his colleague had been arrested by a police officer while wearing a bag he had bought and taken to the stadium, when they got there another asked the police officer why he was being abused, and the police officer replied to Chris Adams’ friend, “Sometimes you wake up badly and meet someone Be patient with her and take care of her!”
The message was posted on his Twitter account recently asking if the issue of out-of-work issues should be addressed by the public. He was arrested and released on bail.
What the law says
Article 39 of the Law on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes Using Technology states that anyone who knowingly uses a computer or computer network to publish rumors that may cause intimidation, confusion or public violence or information that could cause a person to lose confidence, commits a crime.
If convicted by a court, he shall be sentenced to imprisonment not less than three years but not more than five years, and a fine of not less than one million Rwandan francs but not more than three million Rwandan Francs
