Mc Carthy and his men will play the CAF Champions League
One day before the end of the South African first division championship, AmaZulu (53 pts) secured his second place behind Mamelodi Sundowns (64 pts). Ushutu, winner of Swallows (1-0) on Wednesday evening during the 29th day, can no longer be joined by Orlando Pirates (49 pts). Thus, the Kwazulu Natal club qualifies for the CAF Champions League. An unimaginable feat when Benedict Mc Carthy (43) arrived on the bench in December 2020.
After 8 days, AmaZulu indeed flirted with the red zone and had only one victory. But under the impetus of the former striker Bafana Bafana, the Greens began a good comeback by succeeding a series of 16 games without defeat from January (12 wins, 4 draws).
From his second experience as the main coach of a team Mc Carthy therefore won a qualification for the African Cup with a modest team. Before AmaZulu, he trained for a season in Cape Town City with which he finished 6th last year before resigning for personal reasons.
