Table tennis lovers can bite their fingers. The African Championship which starts on Wednesday 1 st September 2021 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, held in camera. The decision was made by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Only accredited media and guests will therefore have access to the Palais Polyvalent des Sports. And that is on condition of presenting a negative Covid-19 test. “ It will not be enough to wave your accreditation or invitation to gain access to the competition. It is the health context that demands it from us, ” explains Alfred Bagueka, President of the Cameroonian Federation . “ The competition is completely supervised by the International Federation and following the rules of the International Olympic Committee ,” added the president of the Local Organizing Committee.
Nearly a hundred athletes will be at these African Table Tennis Championships. Twenty countries will in fact compete for the winners. There will be Egypt, Senegal, Nigeria, Djibouti, Uganda, Benin and Cameroon, the host country. Table tennis players compete in seven categories: men’s and women’s teams, men’s and women’s singles.
