The Ugandan national team is going through a difficult period with the retirements of several executives. After Hassan Wasswa and Dennis Onyango, it’s Michael Azira’s turn to retire with the Cranes.

He announced it in a statement to the Ugandan Football Federation (FUFA). “ Playing for the national team has been an honor for me and I will always be grateful for this opportunity to represent my country and my family, ” writes Azira.

He played two CAN with the Cranes in 2017 and 2019. The player remembers his good times. “ Playing two African Cups is one of my best memories with the Cranes, ” he adds.

Uganda is not qualified for CAN 2022 in Cameroon. And the Cranes will have to fill their departures before the start of the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup. The Cranes share their group with Mali, Kenya and Rwanda.
