United States: new shooting in Texas leaves one dead and five seriously injured
Hours after Joe Biden unveiled his proposals to limit guns in the United States, a 27-year-old man opened fire on colleagues and customers at a woodworking store.
person died Thursday and six others were injured, five seriously, in a shootout at a Texas woodworking company, local police said. “At approximately 2:30 pm we were informed of a shooting, (…) the agents intervened and found several victims on the spot”, had related Jason James, spokesman for the police force of Bryan, located between Houston and Dallas. The perpetrator fled, leaving one dead, four seriously injured and one person in shock.
Authorities have provided few details about the attack itself. Houston-based KPRC-TV, a subsidiary of NBC, citing police, said the suspect opened fire with a handgun.
Motivations still unknown at this stage
The alleged shooters were arrested two hours after the shooting in Bedias, 40 km northeast of Bryan. He is an “employee,” Bryan Town Police tweeted. Larry Bollin is 27 years old, his motivations remain unknown for the moment. On the website of Kent Moore Firms, which has eleven stores across the state and employees nearly 600 people, Larry Bollin is not or no longer listed as an employee of Bryan.
A state serviceman was shot and wounded during the arrest of the suspect, in circumstances which were not disclosed. Hospitalized in serious condition, he was however stable a few hours later.
Indicted, Larry Bollin was incarcerated. His bail, to be released, was set at $ 1 million, a sum which in principle prevents any possibility of exit. The names of the victims should be released this Friday, after agreement of the families.
These facts came hours after President Joe Biden unveiled in the White House targeted measures to limit the proliferation of firearms in the United States, where shootings are a recurring scourge. The debate has been reignited by recent tragedies, such as the deaths of four people, including a 9-year-old child, in California on April 1 , eight days after the Colorado supermarket shooting that claimed ten lives.
