World Cup 2023-Qualifications: Nigeria falls from entry against Cape Verde

Nigeria lose to Cape Verde (71-79)

Nigeria is definitely not succeeding. Despite the return of their boss Ike Diogu, the D-Tigers indeed fell against Cape Verde (79-71), for their first match of qualifying the 2023 World Cup , this Friday, November 26 in Benguela, Angola. The match was hotly contested. The Nigerians narrowly won the first quarter (20-18). But the Blue Sharks have the answer and win the second (16-15). At the break a single point separates the two teams (35-34).

Back from the locker room, the two teams are still standing shoulder to shoulder. The D-Tigers win the third quarter but have only five points ahead of the Cape Verdeans (55-51). The latter will thus crush Nigeria in the money time. They slam a 28-16 and sign their first victory of these qualifiers (79-71).

Nigeria will try to recover against Mali while Cape Verde will do battle with Uganda this Saturday, November 27.
