World top scorer U17 (2007): Nigerian Chrisantus is back!
World champion and top scorer of the U17 World Cup in 2007, the Nigerian Macauley Chrisantus had disappeared from the radar. The 30-year-old center-forward signed yesterday Monday at FF Jaro in Finland.
Macauley Chrisantus resurfaces! He commits until December 2021 at FF Jaro (D1 Finalande). His name certainly doesn’t mean much to most football lovers. And yet in 2007, many predicted a very bright future for him in football. Macauley Chrisantus had, in fact, just flown over the Under-17 World Cup. A real fox of surfaces, he allowed Nigeria to win the competition. By finishing top scorer with 7 achievements.
Macauley Chrisantus started his festival by scoring in all group matches (5 goals). First in front of France (2-1) of Henri Saivet, also scorer. Before then succeeding in doubles against Japan (3-0) and Haiti (4-1). Silent in the round of 16, Macauley Chrisantus, however, strikes in the quarter-finals against Argentina (2-0). And in the semi-final against Germany of Toni Kroos (elected MVP of the competition), the Nigerian scores his 7th goal of the tournament.
Hamburg spends € 1million on Chrisantus
In the final against Bojan’s Spain, Chrisantus did not find the net but Nigeria won on penalties. In the wake of this successful World Cup, Hamburg made the bet to recruit the young Nigerian . The German club also grants 1 million euros to pay for the services of the kid trained in Hearts of Abuja. A hell of a lot for a teenager, especially at the time. But, Macauley Chrisantus will never shine in the German top flight.
Hamburg loaned him successively in Bundesliga 2 successively to Karlsruhe and Frankfurt before letting him go free in Las Palmas in 2012. In the Spanish second division, the Abuja native obtained interesting statistics: 19 goals and 5 assists in two seasons. Afterwards, it is the beginning of a long journey that sends him to Turkey, Greece, Finland, Saudi Arabia and Iran. So yesterday, he signed until the end of the season at FF Jaro .
