CAN U20: Uganda will challenge Ghana in the final
The final of the 22 th edition of CAN U20 will pit Saturday Ghana to Uganda at the Olympic Stadium in Nouakchott. In the semi-finals, Ghanaians and Ugandans took out Gambia (1-0) and Tunisia (4-1).
This CAN U20 gives birth to an unexpected final. Beaten in the group stage (2-1) by Gambia, Ghana takes revenge. The Black Satellites won in the semi-finals ahead of the Gambians (1-0). On an excellent free kick from Precious Boah (33 ‘), Ghana did the job and kept their lead until the end of the match.
The Young Scorpions have opportunities to equalize but they lacked realism. The journey of the Black Satellites is heroic. Because they qualify for the quarter-finals thanks to a place of best third. They have, in fact, started with a bang this CAN U20 in front of Tanzania (4-0), before sharing the points with Morocco (0-0). Then, they bow to Gambia (2-1). Goal in the quarter-finals, Ghana eliminates Cameroon yet undefeated leader of its group (1-1, tab 4-2).
Winner of the 1993, 1999 and 2009 editions, Ghana will thus play its 6 th CAN U20 final. He, in fact, lost the finals of 2001 and 2013. Ghana therefore targets a 4 th title in these games.
CAN 78 remake for seniors
In the final, the Ghanaians will be opposed to the surprising team of Uganda which has just stricken Tunisia (4-1). Ugandans have opened the scoring in the 4 th minute by Richard Basangwa before Derrick Kakooza (36 ‘) doubled the advantage. Then, the Tunisians reduced the gap by Adam Ben Lamin (39 ‘).
In the second half, however, Uganda is definitely sheltered with Derrick Kakooza who scores his second goal (50 ‘). And it will even offer triple the 73 th minute. The young Ugandan now has 5 goals in the competition. Uganda is therefore in the final for its first participation in the final phase of CAN U20.
The Ugandan juniors thus have the opportunity to avenge their elders, beaten in the final of the CAN seniors in 1978 by Ghana (2-0).
