After more than four months of interruption, due to Covid-19, and a new format, the Rwandan championship resumed its rights on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 May. The meetings took place on different lawns across the country. The observation is that the big formations have negotiated their first exit well. For example in Group A, defending champion APF FC beat Gorilla 2-1.

The award-winning defending champion

The Rwandan Football Federation took advantage of this resumption of the championship to officially hand over to APF FC the champion’s trophy for the 2019-2020 edition, accompanied by an envelope of 25 million Rwandan francs (just over 20,000 euros).

In group B, at the Amahoro stadium, Rayon Sport won (1-0) in front of Gasogi United. Sugira Ernest scored his team’s winning goal.

On behalf of Group C, Police FC crushed Etincelle (5-1) while Mukura was content with a draw (1-1) against the formation of Sunrise.

Ten cases of Covid-19

For the other results, Rutsiro created the surprise by beating (2-1) Kiyovu, AS Kigali dominated Musanze by 4 goals to 1 and Espoir snatched a victory (1-0) on the ground of Marine.

The match that is expected to pit AS Muhanga against Bugesera has been postponed. Ten Muhanga players as well as two staff members are positive for Covid-19.

The matches of the Rwandan championship are played behind closed doors in accordance with the sanitary protocol. The second day is scheduled for Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 May
