KAMPALA — Senior Advisor to the President of Uganda and Minister, Hon. Justine Nameere, responded strongly to the Commander-in-Chief of the Ugandan Army, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, reminding him that government officials are appointed or removed according to the powers provided by the Constitution.
The conflict between the leaders intensified after General Muhoozi Kainerugaba wrote on the X website, indicating that he could play a role in the removal of Hon. Justine Nameere in her leadership position.
In response to what Gen. Muhoozi had announced, Nameere said that he was not intimidated by what he announced, stressing that the power to appoint or remove members of the Government belongs to the President of the Republic, instead of the Defense Commanders.
“I’m not afraid of you,” Nameere said. He added that the appointment and dismissal of public officials should be done according to the procedures provided by the Constitution, instead of being done based on military power or messages published on social media.
These words have led to a debate on the relationship between the civilian administration and the military administration in Uganda, especially regarding the power to make decisions on important positions in the Government.
This is also happening at a time when in Uganda there is still a discussion about the role of the military in the political affairs and governance of the country.
